Quick look at Intention, Learning Experience, Assessment, and Ways Forward. The full session-by-session log is in the DOCX download.
I
Intention
Learners recognize argumentative text structures, examine how structure supports clarity and purpose, evaluate effectiveness for the intended audience, and compose an original argumentative piece using The Necklace and local issues as springboards.
L
Learning Experience
Sessions use Think-Pair-Share on real community arguments, teacher modeling of thesis and claims, argument mapping in groups, guided annotation of sample texts, and staged drafting of an argumentative paragraph or speech.
A
Assessment
Formative tasks include annotated sample texts, completed argument maps, and peer-reviewed drafts. Teacher checks thesis clarity, evidence use, and logical order before learners finalize output.
W
Ways Forward
Extension: learners interview a family member about a community issue and list main claims heard. Remediation and enrichment options (sentence frames, extension research) are included in the full DOCX lesson log.
